Restaurant Description

Sister restaurant of Pepperoncini on Calle Uruguay, and owned by the same group as Tre Scalini, Pepperoncini di Mare is a stylish restaurant serving an enticing menu of fresh seafood, pasta and other items.  If you don’t eat seafood, don’t be completely deterred by the name because while the focus of the menu is definitely on seafood, there are plenty of meat and vegetarian dishes to choose from. I ordered a shrimp appetizer which was pretty good, followed by a stunning filet steak, stuffed with roasted red peppers and cheese.  The meal was rounded off by a stunning chocolate fondue, a rich cake-like creation filled with molten chocolatey goodness.  A must for any chocoholic.  The restaurant is very modern, yet charming, and is home to some fantastic modern abstract pieces of art, custom-designed by a French artist.

Restaurant Description

Tomate y Amor opened in 2009 in the previous location of The Palms restaurant.  For those of you who have been, the interior is much the same – an elegant, stylish decor reminiscent of a South Beach bistro.  The menu is varied, including everything from pasta to seafood and steak.  All ingredients were incredibly fresh and the service was excellent.  Also the prices are quite reasonable (much lower than in the days of The Palms).  As well as a varied food menu, the cocktail list included a nice selection, including a refreshing Champagne Cocktail.  Expect to spend around $50 for two people enjoying a 2-course meal and a bottle of wine.

Restaurant Description

El Callejon del Gato (Cat Alley) is a new tapas restuarant that opened in Casco Viejo in early 2010.  The restaurant has an elegant, yet casual feel to it and the food does not disappoint.  On my visit to El Callejon del Gato, the chef served us a great variety of his dishes, without us having to order anything in particular.  The meal culminated with a stunning red snapper, cooked whole in the oven with a selection of mediterranean vegetables, including bell peppers, zucchini, red onions and garlic.  The fish was served at our table by the chef himself and was cooked to perfection.Prior to the fish, we enjoyed garlic and salt chicken wings, pulpo a la gallega, clams, shrimp and a delicious salad.

Everything about El Callejon del Gato has it set for success in the Panamanian restaurant scene.  Not only is the food excellent and the service friendly, el Callejon seems to be turning into quite the meeting point among Casconians, whon come to the bar to relax at the beautiful bar with their neighbors.  If you’re in “Casco”, don’t miss a light snack or a full meal at the Callejon del Gato.

Restaurant Description

The Executive Hotel has long been famous for its American-style breakfasts, served 24 hours a day.  Choices include everything from the standard 2 eggs, bacon, texas toast and homefries to belgian waffles, french toast, pancakes and divine western omelettes.  This place does a great trade on Saturday and Sunday mornings and the breakfasts are not only delicious, but also affordable.  The dining room has a strange old-fashioned charm, and the service is good.  Also try the chocolate or banana milkshakes.

If you’re not looking for breakfast, the Executive also serves up great burgers, steaks and a variety of Panamanian specialties.  Everything here is made in-house, and the desserts (especially the cheesecakes) are particularly noteworthy.
